Last month, the MBTA proposed fare hikes amounting to an average increase of 6.3 percent for bus, subway and train rides. If approved, they’ll take effect July 1.
Some specific proposed changes include increasing CharlieCard rates for one-way train and bus trips by 10 and 15 cents, respectively, and increasing monthly passes for commuter rail trips to places such as Worcester and Gloucester by $25+.
The MBTA argues increases are in line with inflation and necessary to improve service. Several public meetings will facilitate discussion prior to the vote of MBTA’s Fiscal and Management Control Board in March.
