Some of my friends were elated by the Republicans’ $1.9 trillion tax cut in 2017. Others were happy about the Democrats’ $1.9 trillion stimulus plan rolling out this month.
As some households deposit stimulus checks, I’m thinking about my four-year-old granddaughter and two others due this spring. When they grow up and learn about the U.S. deficit — already larger than our annual economic output — that recent generations left them to manage, what will they think?
Soon their generation will be running our country and they’ll be telling us how to cover the costs. What is it they say about paybacks?
