While its moniker evokes the infamous 1773 steeping of tea in the city’s harbor, the Boston Tea Party was also a rock club for a hot minute between 1967-1970.
The former synagogue, located at 53 Berkeley St., hosted rock legends Led Zeppelin and The Velvet Underground before live music struck a new chord: Sprawling arena concerts and outdoor festivals ultimately caused the cost of hiring live musicians to skyrocket, shuttering smaller venues in their wake.
In 1969, the venue hit the road, relocating to new digs adjacent to Fenway Park where it lived on in music history as The Avalon.
