Stone shopping in a forest of tranquility

While picking through heaps of geological wonders for a recent project, I came across a collection of petrified wood. From the Greek root meaning, literally, “wood turned into stone,” this is a plant that fossilizes in the Earth. Without oxygen, the wood is replaced by opal, calcite, pyrite and silica.

Petrified wood is known for its super powers – it’s able to stabilize, strengthen, calm and inject wisdom. This makes for a perfect stone for a busy household, a conference room or a feature wall in a front entry. Alternatively, frame it on the wall as a simple, beautiful decor piece.
