Of all the pomp and circumstance surrounding July 4, Boston hosts a mainstay: Boston Pops Orchestra’s FREE July 4th Concert at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade – followed by fireworks.
This season marks three decades since then thirty-five-year-old Maestro Keith Lockhart took to the podium – on May 10, 1995 – at the same age as Arthur Fiedler, the first American-born conductor to lead the orchestra. In the Pops’ 140-year history, 20 individuals have held the baton.
This year’s concert begins at 8 p.m. followed by fireworks over The Charles River – broadcast live at Bloomberg.com and on channel 7 WHDH.
