Choosing the Right Summer Camp

by Michael Polzella

New England provides plenty of summer camp options, so consider these questions when choosing one for your child:

Day or overnight? It depends on age, but kids as young as 8 or 9 can attend overnight.

Ideal location? This varies based on the child’s abilities away from home, but day camps are usually nearby, while overnights are a little further away.

Educational or experiential? For academic reinforcement, try day camp at a college or private school. For escapism, YMCAs or overnights on Cape Cod or adjacent states are great options.

Talk to friends, research reviews and let the fun begin!
