Locals and visitors alike know the cobblestone streets of Boston’s North End are where you will find some of the most delicious – not to mention authentic – cannoli this side of Palermo. As to the history behind Mike’s Pastry? That begs a bit of filling (in).
The eponymous Michael Mercogliano set to work perfecting his one-of-a-kind cannoli after arriving in the North End, straight from Italy, when he was 12 years old. He opened his famed pastry shop on Hannover Street in 1976 and passed the proverbial torch to his stepson, Angelo Papa, prior to his death – at age 90 – in 2012.
