When I drink beer, 90% of the time I’m grabbing a Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, so hearing about the upcoming merger between Delaware-based Dogfish Head Brewery and The Boston Beer Company (maker of Sam Adams) had me worried. While both great companies, could they still maintain quality and independence?
The founders of both companies claim the merger will help them compete in an industry seeing rapid consolidation.
Both companies are defined as craft brewers by the Brewers Association – meaning they’re independent and produce fewer than 6 million barrels of beer yearly. They’ll retain this status after the merger.
