In 1970, a silver mine in Mexico released a 70-pound piece of turquoise from the earth, and a talented stone carver saw its future.
After three years of carving, he revealed the American Frontier – depicting the Wild West, trains, outlaws, cowboys, Indians, all the ghosts of the past, the fight over simplicity and preservation of the earth’s beauty, and the desire to own a piece of it.
The stone chants, “We should be as water, which is lower than all things yet stronger even than the rocks” (Sioux); “We will be known forever by the tracks we leave” (Dakota).
