Although the weather’s wintery, it’s time to consider summer camps! Depending on your kids’ ages, decide on day programs versus overnight. Have a budget in mind for both.
For sleepaway, figure in distance, length of stay and activities. Many camps have music, theatre, arts, science or sports themes. Age 12 is a good starting point for overnight. A variety of closer day programs are often run by town rec departments, schools, colleges or local YMCAs. Search the American Camp Association database to find both types of programs.
Finally, be safe. Check camp accreditations, history, philosophy and staff-to-child ratios.
