Artist Lew French’s stone reinterpretation

by Michael Polzella

Ancient stones meticulously fused with driftwood that tell a mentoring story? This was the magic I found at Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Martha’s Vineyard, when I discovered celebrated artist Lew French and his amazing work.

Last summer, I was honored when Lew gave me a personal tour of a property that housed several of his pieces. Each stoic sculpture told a fluid poetic tale about journey, survival, aging-patina, renewal and withstanding the test of time.

With 35 years of experience, Lew artistically assembles each piece, recognizes potential, and enhances the beauty of even the tiniest of precious stones.
