by The 100 Companies

When Jennie Loitman Barron was born in Boston’s West End to Russian Jewish immigrants in 1891, she changed the course of history for women across the Bay State.

Barron was the first female to both present evidence and prosecute a major criminal case in Massachusetts — before becoming the first woman judge appointed to the Municipal Court in Boston (1937) and the Massachusetts Superior Court (1959) — where she served until her death in 1969.
