As a fashion and portrait photographer, I often get asked for advice on what to wear, or what NOT to wear, during a headshot photo session. My advice includes:
- Unless you are an attorney or CEO, stay away from stiff suits. Think layers and textures instead to achieve a more approachable yet professional appearance.
- Less is more. Don’t wear big jewelry, scarfs or distracting prints or patterns.
- Solid colors will make you stand out and blue looks great on everyone.
- Make sure your clothes are ironed and fit your body.
- Present the most genuine smile possible – people notice the difference.

Boston is described as a historic and traditional city with a European feel. While that may be true, and we embrace it, the face of Boston is changing. People are living their lives differently, and the modern aesthetic in the design and architecture of Boston is a reflection of this.

Most people in Boston have seen “The Town,” the dramatic heist movie about bank robbers from Charlestown, starring Ben Affleck. But I’d guess that most haven’t picked up the book, and they should.

Last April, my boss and stone mentor Ivo Cubi, owner of Cumar Marble and Granite, sent me to Italy where I fell in love with a white, gray, black and “greenery” colored stone called “White Beauty.” It whispered my favorite mentoring question: What do you see that I can become?
